Hi! I'm Alison. I'm a comedian. I pay the bills by playing people on TV, in movies and online. I also write words and worry too much. I have an embarrassingly low level of fame where no one knows my name, but they have this feeling that they went to school with me. I like firm handshakes, information, my dog, smart people and the Earth. I'm on Parks and Rec sometimes and VH1 even more. I'm sorry if I once pranked you on MTV. But, c'mon! That was fun, right?
Anonymous asked: Do you still take classes to improve/stay sharp? When does acting class go from a must-do to a don't-do?
Classes should never be a don’t-do. But as you book more work, you have less time to do them. And there’s less of an immediate need for them since, luckily, when we work, we are constantly training on the job, learning things from directors, producers, cameramen, other actors, and basically anyone on set.
But if you haven’t booked an acting job in, say, 3 months or so, then it’s not a bad idea to hop back in a class to stay sharp. I also use a private coach for big jobs. And, as a side note, it also keeps you sharp (and interesting) if you take a class that has nothing to do with acting!
